Who I Am

 

I started my teaching career as a Program Coordinator for the Orange County Outdoor Science School program near Los Angeles.

 

During my graduate studies I interned with PT Telkom in Indonesia at their Graduate School of Management. After completing my graduate degree I returned to Indonesia to participate in a research project which was short-lived because of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

 

Consequently, I remained in Indonesia and returned to teaching by accepting a position at Prasetiya Mulya Graduate School of Management. Eventually, I transitioned into independent consulting and training in Management Communications and Business English for a number of corporations in the Jakarta area.

During this time, I also became interested in teaching test preparation (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GMAT, and GRE) to international applicants applying to overseas universities.

 

In addition to my professional work, I also have several years experience sitting on interview panels for the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF). For several years I evaluated applications and conducted interviews for the Fulbright Scholarship, the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Fellowship, and the Community College Initiative Program.

 

I have also coached a number of students through the application and interview process for major government scholarships awarded by the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). Many of my former students who were awarded scholarships ended up being accepted as graduate students in well-known U.S. and European universities.

In total, my teaching career has spanned almost four decades. I spent most of those years teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) as well as Managerial Communications and Business English. The last twenty years of my career have mainly been devoted to advising international applicants about how to apply to graduate schools where English is the primary language.

 

By “advising” I mean helping students prepare for:

 

  • academic testing (GMAT, GRE)
  • admissions interviews
  • scholarship interviews
  • writing application essays
  • writing a personal statement
  • writing a statement of purpose
  • writing a letter of recommendation
  • academic writing in general
  • building an academic résumé or curriculum vitae
  • giving an academic presentation

 

Based on this experience, I have put together a direct program of assistance based on quick results that will save you time and money.
